These skulls were scanned using an Artec Spider handheld 3D scanner and edited in Zbrush.

The following pig, roe deer, and dog skulls were created to compare dental anatomy between humans and animals with different diets supporting a dental student’s research at the University of Dundee. The dog represents carnivores, the deer represents herbivores, and the pig represents omnivores. Humans are likewise omnivores and share the most similarities with the pig.

Missing teeth will be added by a classmate and teeth will be annotated. A separate webpage will be completed which will include a scan I created of a human skull from the University of Dundee Centre for Anatomy and Human Identification collection. These skulls are from the D’Arcy Thomson Zoology Museum and the University of Dundee Dental School’s collection.

The following images show models to be 3D printed as part of the upcoming fall 2025 exhibition by Lauren Gault at Dundee Contemporary Arts. They show a scan of a quarry rock taken with an Artec handheld 3D scanner and a hyoid bone sculpted in Zbrush 3D modeling software. The two are combined to produce five stages.
